The SIAIS Scientific Governance Board Held its Annual Meeting

On November 17th, the SIAIS Scientific Governance Board Annual Meeting 2014 was held in ShanghaiTech University with board members including Mianheng Jiang, President of ShanghaiTech and Shanghai Branch of Chinese Academy of Sciences(CAS), Richard Lerner, Founding Director of SIAIS and Academician of American National Academy of Sciences, Zhu Chen, Professor of the School of Medicine, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Academician of CAS and Vice-Chairman of the standing committee of 12th National People’s Congress of People’s Republic of China, Ernesto Carafoli, Professor of Padova University, Italy and Editor in Chief of Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communication (BBRC), Raymond Dwek, Professor and Chairman of the Department of Biochemistry, Oxford University, Director of the Glycobiology Institute and Fellow of the Royal Society, Phillip Frost, Chairman of the Board of Teva, Weiping Jia, President of Shanghai Sixth People’s Hospital, Shanghai JiaoTong University, Ge Li, Founder, Chairman & CEO of Asia’s largest pharmaceutical R&D service provider, WuXi AppTec, Zihe Rao, President-elect of the International Union of Pure and Applied Biophysics (IUPAB) and Academician of CAS and Gregory Winter, Master of Trinity College, Cambridge University.

Jiang first extended his warm welcome to all the members present. Biao Jiang, Executive Director of SIAIS outlined the progress achieved during the past year and Guang Yang, Deputy Director of SIAIS analyzed the challenges and the planning of the institute. Board members listened to the scientific reports made by 6 key labs and provided constructive suggestions regarding the development of SIAIS. At last, Mianheng Jiang summarized the resolutions reached at the meeting.

SIAIS Scientific Governance Board Meeting is held on a regular basis and the board members are world renowned scientists, entrepreneurs, and key opinion-leaders of the Chinese scientific community. SIAIS Scientific Governance Board Meeting bears strategic significance for the development of SIAIS.
