On April 22nd, 2015, the ceremony of awarding Professor Richard A. LernerHonorary Fellow of Chinese Chemical Society (CCS) was held at the Shanghai Institute for Advanced Immunochemical Studies (SIAIS), ShanghaiTech University. Prof. Kuiling Ding, vice chairman of CCS and academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, presented a certificate of Honorary Fellow of CCS to Prof. Lerner. Prof. Jinkang Gong, vice president of ShanghaiTech, Prof. Biao Jiang, executive director of SIAIS and Dr. Guang Yang, deputy director of SIAIS, attended the ceremony.
Honorary Fellowship of CCS was founded in 2009. It is the highest honor that CCS bestows on an individual and it is only conferred to distinguished chemists of the world who have made significant contributions to the advancement of chemistry as well as to the development of Chinese Chemistry and the Society.
Professor Richard Lerner is a member of U.S. Academy of Sciences, American Academy of Medical Sciences and American Academy of Arts and Sciences. As the founder and pioneer of immunochemical theory, he has developed almost all important research methods for immunochemical studies, including combinatorial antibody library, catalytic antibody library and intracellular combinatorial antibody library. Prof. Lerner was appointed as Founding Director of SIAIS on October, 2012, and many world famous scientists joined SIAIS by his influence. He has also set up the Lab of Antibody Design and introduced the most advanced antibody library, aiming to develop novel and effective antibody drugs. Furthermore, Prof. Lerner builds close relationships with Chinese scientists, playing an important role on project collaboration and talent cultivation.
Prof. Lerner felt greatly honored to receive this award, and reviewed the rise of Chinese scientific research in recent years. He expressed his determination to continue collaborating with Chinese scientists and promoting the development of immunochemical studies in China.
