Eli Lilly Delegation Visits ShanghaiTech

A delegation from Eli Lilly led by Dr. Jan M. Lundberg, Executive Vice President, Science and Technology, and President, Lilly Research Laboratories, visited ShanghaiTech on March 3rd. The group of 11 researchers and administrators from Lilly China Research & Development Center (LCRDC), included Senior Vice President, China Research, Site Head of LCRDC Dr. Zhang Bei. The group had a bird’s eye view of the new campus.
 
In the afternoon, Vice President Dr. Gong Jinkang met with the delegation and introduced ShanghaiTech University, and also mentioned some strategic cooperative partnerships with well-known companies. Lilly expressed an interest in cooperation opportunities. Both parties suggested the possibility of lectures and seminars by from speakers from Lilly or LCRDC which would provide a practice platform for our students in the future.
 
The delegation then came to SIAIS, and founding director Richard Lerner met them and discussed core research areas. Additionally, Dr. Zhang Bei introducedLCRDC objectives:looking for cooperation in research with SIAIS, including drug R&D and the new biological technology, etc.
 
Afterwards, Eli Lilly visited Synchrotron.
 
Global R&D based pharmaceutical Company Eli Lilly (Eli Lilly and Company) was founded in the US in the state of Indiana in 1876, and is one of the fastest growing pharmaceutical companies in the industry. Lilly came to China in 1918 and opened its first overseas representative office in Shanghai. Today the Lilly China R&D center is located in Shanghai Zhangjiang.
